Here's What Mitt Romney Said About the Trump vs. Harris Debate

Earlier this week, former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris had their first and likely only debate. In June, Trump debated Biden, which resulted in him dropping out of the race shortly after.

After this week’s debate, several Republican lawmakers came forward expressing support for Trump. That is, except for one.

This week, failed Republican presidential candidate Sen. Mitt Romney (UT) praised Harris’ performance at the presidential debate on Tuesday, according to the New York Post.

Speaking to reporters on Capitol Hill, Romney called Harris “intelligent” and “capable.”

He added that the debate proved that Harris can “answer questions from the media.”

“Those were answered well. She spoke well and clearly and I think she prosecuted her case well,” Romney reportedly said.

“Most people didn’t know her terribly well other than a few clips that were not flattering, that you might see on the internet,” Romney added.

“And people saw, actually, she’s an intelligent, capable person who has a point of view on issues,” he continued. “And she actually demonstrated that time and again.”

As for Trump, Romney said, “This was classic President Trump.”

“President Trump prosecuted his case as he wanted to,” he added.

Romney has not indicated who he will vote for in the 2024 election. But, in an interview with CNN, he stated that he would not cast his vote for Trump.

“For me, there are two factors in deciding who i want to have as the leader of my country and the person who is the example of the president for my kids and my grandkids. One, is their position on policies…But, there’s another dimension besides policy, and that’s character,” he said, indicating that these are the reasons he’d not vote for Trump.
