After 25 Years in Congress, Sanders Claims He's 'Not Exactly a Career Politician'

The beginning of this year marked 25 years since Sen. Bernie Sanders first took the oath of office as a U.S. representative. Prior to that he served four terms as the mayor of Burlington—Vermont’s largest city. Thus, you could say politics is all Bernie knows, making it all the more bizarre that he apparently doesn’t consider himself a career politician.

“Well, I think if you look at my record I'm not exactly a career politician,” Sanders said. “Martha, during my tenure in the Congress, I have taken on virtually every powerful special interest, from Wall Street to the insurance companies, to the pharmaceutical industry, to the military industrial complex -but what my campaign is about is standing up to the billionaire class today.”

His record, no matter how distinct on the Hill, doesn’t negate the fact that since the 1980s, his main source of income has come from taxpayers.

So, sorry, Bernie, you are a career politician.
