Five Years Later

Matt, I think it's interesting that you picked "five years ago" as the moment in the past to compare to current resistance to President Bush by conservatives.

Almost exactly five years ago, conservatives said "no" to President Bush's plan to expand Medicare and add prescription drug coverage.

Unfortunately there weren't enough conservatives to stop the largest expansion of entitlements in twenty-five years and President Bush got his bill thanks to some of the most unprecedent arm-twisting the House of Representatives had ever seen.  Bob Novak wrote a quick recap of the vote on Townhall.com at the time.

A lot of conservatives point to that moment at 5am on November 22, 2003 as the moment the wheels came off the Republican revolution.
