Matt Lewis makes a good point about the candidates sharpening their attacks on each other in the opening minutes of this debate -- this debate being the playoffs and previous debates being the pre-season and regular season.
I have one disagreement with this metaphore -- teams are usually winnowed down before the playoffs begin. There are still eight candidates on the stage -- At least three of them aren't playoff teams. How about changing it up before the January 30th debate and limiting participation to candidates who receive at least 10% in any of the states who have held a primary or caucus by that time? Now that's a playoff.
