The Christian Science Monitor seizes this opportunity to remind us of other infamous Reid gaffes, and brings up the question: will this long string of mis-speaks affect his re-election?
-- In August, Reid said, “I don’t know how anyone of Hispanic heritage could be a Republican. Will the media start focusing in on these gaffes the same way they have honed in on Sharron Angle's?
-- At a dedication to the new Capitol Visitor Center in December 2008, Reid joked that in the summer, due to high humidity, “you could literally smell the tourists coming into the Capitol.”
-- Reid was quoted in “Game Change,” a book about the 2008 election, as saying Barack Obama would be helped by being a “light-skinned" African-American “with no Negro dialect, unless he wanted to have one.”
-- When asked how the former Massachusetts senator’s death would affect healthcare-reform efforts, Reid said, “I think it’s going to help us.”
