Micheal Barone On The Unpopularity Of The Democrats' Big-Government Programs

In criticizing their policies, Barone also has a pretty scathing critique for the other side of the aisle, saying that while Obama is faltering, there's no real Republican alternative rising to the top. Perhaps he's advocating for the installation of more libertarian-policies?

Voters still have a lingering distaste for Republican politicians and give higher (or less low) ratings to the Democratic than the Republican party. Republican policy proposals, though not nonexistent as the Democrats charge, have not caught the public's attention and may prove no more popular than the Democrats' health insurance and cap-and-trade proposals.
