Reports: Blue Dog Shuler to Challenge Pelosi for Minority Leader

This is likely more about covering his own political backside than it is about actually winning the gig, but Heath Shuler is reportedly jumping into the Democratic leadership fray:

With Wednesday's vote for House minority leader nearing, The Washington Post, CBS News and Fox News reported Monday night that U.S. Rep. Heath Shuler had officially announced his “long-shot” bid to take the position from Nancy Pelosi.

In TV interviews Sunday and Monday morning, Shuler reiterated that someone should challenge Pelosi and that he would bring a more moderate voice, but he never made his bid official.

On Monday night, The Washington Post quoted Shuler as saying “I'll be running.”

Most of Shuler's natural allies have been sent packing by voters, so his move is tantamount to making a point, and little more.  Regardless of what his motives may be, and no matter how remote his chances are, Shuler must be stopped.

Eyes on the prize, folks.  Remember the new GOP battle cry.

an insurgency on her hands among members of the Congressional Black Caucus:

The Congressional Black Caucus has decided to withhold its approval for the House Democratic leadership team, denying Speaker Nancy Pelosi full support of the 42-member organization as she campaigns to remain leader.

After a nearly two hour long meeting on Monday night, chairwoman Barbara Lee of California said the group only will endorse caucus member James Clyburn of South Carolina for a leadership position. The causus first wants to know what his role will be in the Democratic leadership before backing the full slate.
