Shocker: Media Prematurely Declared Democrat Winner of CT Governor Race

Soon after polls closed on Tuesday, the Associated Press and other media outlets called the Connecticut Governor race for Democrat Dan Malloy.  Two days later, the AP has

reversed its own projection:

In another shocking twist to Connecticut's race for governor, The Associated Press has withdrawn its declaration that Dan Malloy has won.

With votes still to be counted, Foley has a small lead, and the office of Secretary of the State Susan Bysiewicz, which had also declared Malloy the winner, has been mum on specific numbers.

Malloy would be Connecticut's first Democratic governor in two decades, and was believed to have narrowly defeated millionaire Republican businessman Tom Foley in one of the closest gubernatorial elections in state history.

Malloy, 55, would succeed retiring Republican Gov. M. Jodi Rell and will become the first Democrat to hold the job since William O'Neill left office in 1991.

Foley, however, refused to concede the race Wednesday, saying his campaign's vote totals showed him winning.

At this hour, it appears as though the Democrat may still barely eke out a win, but by a microscopic margin.  Either way, the media jumped the gun for a Democrat -- again.
