More Headaches for Democrat Bill Keating in MA-10

Two follow-up items to yesterday's story about the conflict of interest scandal that could sink Democratic House candidate Bill Keating in MA-10.

(1) Keating's spokesman is attempting a

"no biggie" spin on the issue, which I suspect won't fly:

David Traub, spokesman for Keating's office, defended the decision to accept the donations.

"It's neither inappropriate nor uncommon for attorneys to contribute to political candidates," Traub said.

Traub also pointed out that by the time O'Connell's case heads to trial next summer, Keating will no longer be district attorney whether he wins the congressional race or not.

(2) A source familiar with this situation tells me that the August $1,545 donation and fundraiser were not the first instances of coincidental generosity from the attorney in this case.  John McGlone (who's been awfully quiet since this story broke) reportedly made a previous, $500 state campaign contribution to District Attorney Keating in December 2009....one day prior to his client's indictment

Curiouser and curiouser...
