Can you imagine the outcry had President Bush run around the country stirring up fear and dislike of Nancy Pelosi in 2006?  Here, the press just reports the tactic as another strategy story (and Obama lapdogs like the New York Times and Bob Schieffer do their part to help the strategy along).
