Liberals are some of the most fascinating individuals – or rather sad individuals. They claim to believe in free speech and free expression, but we all know that's a total fallacy. For years conservatives have talked about being censored on social media. Democrats simply shrugged and turned a blind eye. You know why? Because the censorship we faced benefited them. If we, as conservatives, can't share our ideas and points of view than there's a greater chance for liberals to swoop in and spread their ideology to those who are impressionable, especially our youth.
This week, things took a turn for the worst (for liberals, anyways) when YouTube demonetized a Southern Poverty Law Center's video for advocating for white supremacy. The video in question featured journalist Max Blumenthal interviewing prominent British Holocaust denier David Irving.
“We know that this might be disappointing, but it’s important to us that YouTube is a safe place for all. If content breaks our rules, we remove it,” YouTube said in the email to the SPLC.
According to the Los Angeles Times, Cal State San Bernardino’s Center for the Study of Hate and Extremism's YouTube channel was purged from the social media website, although it's unclear if their removal was part of YouTube's crackdown.
Brian Levin, the director of CSUSB's Center for the Study of Hate and Extremism, said YouTube's efforts were “positive and well-intended" but their algorithm can't distinguish between different types of content.
“Artificial intelligence has not been honed to the level where it can distinguish between content that is promoting the most odious bigotry, and that which is reporting and analyzing it,” Levin told The Times.
Blumenthal took to Twitter to express his disdain for the decision:
In @YouTube’s political purge, my video report for the @splcenter exposing Holocaust revisionist David Irving as a fascist and fraud historian was removed.— Max Blumenthal (@MaxBlumenthal) June 7, 2019
This purge has already gone well beyond its stated aim. It is carpet bombing style censorship. https://t.co/jqSnDuSIwa pic.twitter.com/d3YAvxnZtK
And another lefty reporter jumped on board:
You can't make this up: In its purge, Google-owned YouTube is deleted *anti-racist* videos that expose white supremacists & fascists.— Ben Norton (@BenjaminNorton) June 7, 2019
Among the important videos it has censored is a @MaxBlumenthal interview for the SPLC that *debunked* a Holocaust denier!https://t.co/QxaoFR5QjC
Google-owned YouTube is also now deleting and censoring history teachers' *educational* videos on fascism and Nazism!— Ben Norton (@BenjaminNorton) June 7, 2019
The solution to halting the spread of neo-Nazi ideology is not erasing history and preventing teachers from educating people! Ridiculoushttps://t.co/p9ljCjQFqN
Let's get this straight.
YouTube demonetizes Steven Crowder and it's taking down hate. YouTube demonetizes the SPLC and it's deemed "censorship."
Liberals, you need to get real. You can't say "I believe in free speech as long as the person agrees with me." That is not how the First Amendment works. Pick your poison. Either everyone gets free speech and you might be triggered or everyone is censored so you aren't bothered with being upset.
