The Misguided Faith of Environmentalism

I remember how, for years, the Left pushed — and continues to push — to remove religion from the public sphere. Of course, when they say "religion," what they really mean is Christianity, and anything remotely resembling the Judeo-Christian values that are the bedrock of Western Civilization and its small-L liberal ideals, including democratic governance, God-given rights, and individualism.

They swore that forcing Christians out of polite society would usher in an era of new enlightenment, where society was structured around scientific principles and rooted in logic, facts, and humanism. They made it seem like the only thing standing between mankind and a future like that envisioned in Gene Roddenberry's "Star Trek" was your grandma and her rosary.

But nature abhors a vacuum. The erasure of Christianity from public discourse didn't lead to a bright future full of scientific achievement, logic, and human advancement; instead, it ushered in an era where people believe there are 57 genders and that we can control the weather by eating bugs.

Don't believe me, just ask Nancy Pelosi. Today, she spoke as part of the House Sustainable Energy and Environment Coalition (SEEC) on COP30 and the climate crisis and made it very clear the Left merely substituted a religion for one they didn't like for one they did.

"Internally, we can do our maneuvering and bring our ideas to the fore," Pelosi said. "This is a religious issue. Protect people, not polluters."

People like Pelosi believe they can control the weather if they force people like me to give up our cars, eat bugs and manufactured meat, and ration our travel and our energy consumption. That's no different than the Aztecs ripping the hearts out of their human sacrifice victims to appease angry gods. It's less bloody, but it's just as deadly and anti-human.

Of course, those rules don't apply to Pelosi. She can live in her large San Francisco home with her expensive ice cream and her millions in stock trading profits. She'll continue traveling, just as she continued going to her hairdresser during the COVID lockdowns.

Rules for thee, not for me is the modus operandi of the Democratic Party, after all.

Pelosi would be, and has been, first to screech if Republicans used the same religious fervor for their political causes. Just propose anti-abortion legislation and watch Pelosi recoil like Nosferatu before a crucifix. But when it's something she likes, it's the Gospel.

And I thought Democrats didn't want to live in a theocracy. But I guess it's (D)ifferent when they do it.
