Obligatory Post: Rep. Amash Bashes Establishment Opponent in Primary Victory Speech

Ordinarily, primary victory speeches are gracious and not overly political. They are opportunities for winning candidates to bury the hatchet with their opponents, so to speak, as they prepare and gear up for the general election campaign ahead. But perhaps what Rep. Justin Amash (R-MI) served up last night was wholly appropriate.

After all, his establishment opponent, Brian Ellis, ran a “disgusting, despicable smear campaign,” Amash said, that demanded an immediate apology to him personally and to the community at large. This unusual request was almost certainly precipitated by an ad Ellis endorsed that suggested, among other things, that because Amash wanted to close the prison at Guantanamo Bay, he was somehow “a friend” of Al Qaeda. Oof.

If that’s not a shot below the belt, I don’t know what is.
