President-elect Donald Trump has picked former FEC Chairman Donald McGahn as his White House counsel, the transition team announced on Friday. McGahn was praised for his "brilliant legal mind" and commitment to the Constitution.
"Don has a brilliant legal mind, excellent character and a deep understanding of constitutional law," Trump said in a statement of the lawyer who served as both his campaign and transition attorney. "He will play a critical role in our administration, and I am grateful that he is willing to serve our country at such a high-level capacity."
"I am honored to continue advising President-elect Trump in the Trump-Pence Administration," McGahn said. "President-elect Trump is a bold leader committed to draining the swamp in Washington and restoring economic prosperity and security. I look forward to serving the American public in this role."
Given that McGahn has spent most of his career in various roles in Washington, his hiring confused some people given that this isn't exactly "draining the swamp."
If you want to drain the swamp, picking Don McGahn as your White House Counsel is not the way to do it. https://t.co/fkpVz1ZNrd
