Congressman Allen West represents a segment of the Florida coastline in the US House of Representatives. A freshman congressman who rode in on the wave of Tea Party candidates, he has made a splash – even being asked as the keynote speaker at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC).
West is a political outsider after spending much of his professional career in decorated military service. He has significant voter appeal, though, hauling in remarkable fundraising funds for his re-election campaign, with $1.9 million raised in the third fiscal quarter of 2011. He is being challenged by two Democratic candidates in a highly competitive district.
West holds two master’s degrees, one in political science and the other in military arts and sciences, and had a brief tenure teaching. Congressman West resides in Plantation, Florida with his wife, Angela, and their two daughters.
