(Reuters) - A boat carrying asylum seekers fleeing Myanmar has capsized on route to Bangladesh, Bangladeshi authorities told Reuters on Sunday.
The boat sank near Shah Porir Dwip, on the southern tip of Bangladesh, said Lieutenant Colonel Afrijul Hoque Tutol. Eleven refugees have been rescued, he said.
The rescue operation is continuing and it is unclear how many are missing, Tutol said. An International Organisation for Migration source confirmed the capsizing and said two people were dead, citing information from the local police chief.
