WARSAW, Poland (AP) — Poland's justice minister has called on the parents of a baby girl born last week to come forward and show that their infant is all right.
In a widely debated case, Polish police are seeking the couple who fled a hospital in northwestern Poland with their newborn baby on Friday after a court limited their parental powers. The court decision was in reaction to their protest against the newborn being submitted to routine procedures: wiped clean, vaccinated and given a vitamin shot.
The baby was born Thursday, in the 36th week of pregnancy, and requires medical care, Roman Labedz, a gynecologist at the hospital has said.
Minister Patryk Jaki said Tuesday the parents "might have had a point" in their objections, but should show the baby and allow it to be examined.
