MOGADISHU (Reuters) - A huge explosion took place near the security ministry headquarters in the center of Somalia's capital Mogadishu on Wednesday, a police officer said.
A Reuters witness who heard the blast said a cloud of smoke billowed from the scene.
Officer Mohamed Hussein said the explosion was near a compound housing the security ministry headquarters. The cause of the blast was still unclear, he said.
In the past, al Qaeda-linked al Shabaab militants have taken responsibility for blasts and gun attacks in the capital and elsewhere in Somalia.
