Investigation: Japan knifing suspect attacked methodically

TOKYO (AP) — An official in a Japanese prefecture says the man accused of killing 19 disabled people moved briskly and methodically inside the buildings and rooms where he had formerly worked and finished the deadliest mass attack in postwar Japan in less than one hour.

Welfare department official, Yuki Natori, said the attacker tied down several of the six overnight workers with plastic zip bands so he could move freely in the Yamayuri-en facility early Tuesday. In addition to the 19 disabled people slain, 24 were injured as well as two employees.

Satoshi Uematsu had worked there he was confronted in February about a letter he tried to deliver to a Parliamentary leader in which he said disabled people should be killed.

He remained in custody Thursday after turning himself in.
