JERUSALEM (AP) — A Gaza health ministry official says a Palestinian was killed in clashes with soldiers on the border between the coastal strip and Israel.
Ashraf al-Kidra says the man was shot on Friday afternoon.
Israel's military said Palestinians rushed to the border and tried to damage the fence. Soldiers called on them to stop and fired warning shots in the air. When they persisted, troops fired "at rioters posing a threat of infiltration."
Violence erupted in mid-September over tensions at Jerusalem's holiest site, then spread across Israel, West Bank and to the Gaza border.
Near-daily Palestinian attacks using guns, knives and cars have killed 24 Israelis and an American student. Some 144 Palestinians were killed by Israeli fire; 100 said by Israel to have been attackers. The rest died in clashes.
