MADRID (AP) — An autopsy was scheduled Thursday on the badly decomposed body of a 7-year-old boy which was found in the home of his American parents in the northeastern Spanish city of Girona, police said.
A police spokeswoman said the parents — a 39-year-old man and a 38-year-old woman — were arrested on suspicion of reckless homicide and would be bought before a city court judge Friday.
The autopsy results would not be released unless the court decides to do so, said the spokeswoman, who spoke on condition of anonymity in keeping with police regulations.
The couple, whose names were not released, were arrested Tuesday at the apartment where they lived with the 7-year-old boy, a 12-year-old son and a 14-year-old daughter.
The child's body was found on a bed under several blankets, the spokeswoman said.
Police did not know what part of the United States the family came from or how long they had been in Spain. They said the father was an engineer but could not say if either of the parents worked.
The spokeswoman said officers were called to the building by the apartment's owner, who had gone to collect unpaid rent.
