KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia (AP) — President Barack Obama says the U.S. and Malaysia are developing a strong relationship around the issue of countering terrorism.
Obama is meeting with Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak on the last leg of his 9-day trip to Malaysia, the Philippines and Turkey.
Obama says Malaysia is a majority Muslim country that represents tolerance and peace.
Najib says the two leaders have a similar position on combating violent extremism and that Southeast Asia is not immune from the threat. He says he wants to make Malaysia a center for countering the message of extremists. He says it's important to present a counter narrative to the terrorists.
