Greek ferry seamen extend strike for 2 more days

ATHENS, Greece (AP) — Greece's islands will be left without ferry links for two more days, after the country's umbrella seamen's union decided to renew a two-day strike launched Monday.

The PNO union said Tuesday that it decided on further action after meetings with officials in the left-wing government only offered "vague, worthless promises" to address their demands.

The union objects to planned new pension cuts and other reforms sought by Greece's bailout creditors that the government has committed to. PNO will also join a general strike set for Nov. 12.

The union did not say whether it would accept a government request to make an exception for crews on ferries carrying thousands of newly-arrived refugees and economic migrants from Greece's eastern islands to the mainland.

The strike ends at 6 a.m. Friday.
