BUCHAREST, Romania (AP) — Romania's royal house says the heart of Queen Marie will be returned to the castle where she died more than 70 years ago.
A statement said King Michael has decided that his grandmother's heart, which lies in a silver casket, will be taken on Nov. 3 to the Pelisor Castle in the mountain resort of Sinaia, which is currently a museum. Michael was forced to abdicate in 1947 by the communists.
The government decided Wednesday to hand over Marie's heart, which is currently held by the National History Museum.
The casket will be laid behind a couch in the Golden Room "the place it beat for the last time." Marie, who was a granddaughter of Britain's Queen Victoria, died in 1938.
