BUCHAREST, Romania (AP) — A leader of Romania's main opposition party says it will file a motion of no confidence against the prime minister, who has been indicted and will face trial on corruption-related charges.

Prosecutors formally indicted Victor Ponta Thursday on corruption charges, including tax evasion and money-laundering, and said he will be tried by the country's top court.

He is the first sitting prime minister to be indicted and have his assets seized. He denies wrongdoing and has refused to resign.

"Romania appears to be a state that tolerates corruption," Liberal Party co-leader Alina Gorghiu said Friday.

She said the party was filing the motion because Ponta refused to resign and is still supported by the ruling Social Democratic Party.

The motion will be filed Monday and likely debated on Sept. 29.
