DAKAR, Senegal (AP) — The family of a well-known Senegalese drummer says that Doudou Ndiaye Rose has died at the age of 85.

His family told state television that Rose became ill and died Wednesday morning.

Rose was known to have introduced traditional Senegalese music, notably music using the tam-tam, to the world. He toured through Africa, and to Japan, France and the U.S.

He also collaborated with Miles Davis, Peter Gabriel and the Rolling Stones.
