REIMS, France (AP) — The parents of a comatose French man whose family is divided over whether to continue care for him say doctors want protection for him and for themselves.
Vincent Lambert was left comatose in a 2008 car accident. His wife wants doctors to stop life support but his parents disagree. The case, with echoes of the American case a decade ago of Terri Schiavo, went up to Europe's human rights court, which ruled in June that doctors could stop treatment. The dispute has riveted France.
Lambert's parents say his doctors made no decision Thursday on his care but asked for a legal representative to be designated and sought protection against threats against him and his medical team. Lambert's father said there was a kidnapping plot against his son.
