MEXICO CITY (AP) — The Mexican Navy says it has rescued 12 Cuban men who were found aboard a makeshift raft off the coast of the Yucatan Peninsula.

Photos supplied by the Navy on Monday showed a raft apparently made of polystyrene foam blocks tied to a framework of wooden boards.

The Navy said the rescue occurred Sunday, after a fishing boat spotted the raft adrift. It had no apparent means of propulsion.

The Cubans were given food and water and turned over to immigration authorities.

Mexico usually repatriates Cubans picked up at sea.
