JERUSALEM (AP) — The Israeli military says it has carried out an airstrike on a rocket launcher in the Gaza Strip that was used by militants to fire a rocket into Israel.
The Israeli airstrike early Wednesday hit an open area in northern Gaza, causing no casualties. It was in response to Palestinian rocket fire from Gaza into southern Israel late Tuesday that also hit an open area, causing no casualties.
A Salafi group in Gaza claimed responsibility for the rocket attack. The group has claimed responsibility for sporadic rocket fire into Israel in recent months.
Salafi groups in Gaza are posing a challenge for Hamas. Hamas has accused Salafi groups of being behind explosions of Hamas security posts and has cracked down on the groups.
