RIYADH, Saudi Arabia (AP) — Saudi Arabia is beefing up security around shopping centers and oil facilities after receiving information about possible threats to the sites.

Interior Ministry spokesman Maj. Gen. Mansour al-Turki said in a statement Monday that precautionary measures were put in place to protect against an attempt by militants to target the facilities.

The oil-rich kingdom is leading a coalition carrying out airstrikes against Iranian-allied rebels in its southern neighbor, Yemen. It is also part of the U.S.-led coalition targeting Islamic State militants who have taken over large parts of Iraq and Syria.

U.S. diplomatic missions in the kingdom temporarily stopped providing consular services for a week in March due to security concerns. Two police officers were killed in a drive-by shooting in Riyadh earlier this month.
