PADUA, Italy (AP) — An Italian policeman has gone on trial in the city Padua on allegations he lured young women to his home through a couch-surfing website and then drugged and sexually abused them.
Prosecutors asked the court Tuesday to convict Dino Maglio and sentence him to more than seven years in prison. The next hearing in the fast-track trial is April 14.
An Australian teen says she was abused by Maglio while she stayed at his house. Boris Dubini, who represents the teenager, says Maglio's claim that the sex was consensual was nonsense given the tranquilizer he gave her turned her into a "rag doll" and she couldn't resist.
Calls to Maglio's lawyer were not returned Tuesday. Maglio is being held in a military prison and was not present for Tuesday's hearing.
