WARSAW, Poland (AP) — Officials say that that fog forced five U.S. Army helicopters to make an emergency landing in a Polish field and spend the night there, the second such incident since September.
The U.S. Army said 15 soldiers were moving equipment to their base in Germany on Friday after training with Polish soldiers over the past months. Due to fog they made a precautionary landing in an open field near a village named Krzecin.
Due to the bad visibility they decided to spend the night there with their four Apaches and one Black Hawk.
In September a dozen U.S. Army helicopters also made an unplanned landing in farmers' fields because of poor visibility in stormy weather.
U.S. troops have been engaged in intensified training with Poles since Russia annexed Crimea.
