LONDON (AP) — British police have arrested 13 people in an investigation of an alleged trafficking ring which tricked women into visiting Britain, then sold them into forced marriages.

Police said one pregnant victim claims she was forced to marry a man who was looking to boost his immigration status. Police say the man who arranged the marriage was paid up to 15,000 pounds ($23,600).

Detective Inspector James Faulkner said Thursday there are up to 400 cases involving women being trafficked for marriages in the Manchester area.

The 10 men and three women, aged between 24 and 57, were arrested after police raided homes in the Manchester area on Wednesday.
