NICOSIA, Cyprus (AP) — An official in Cyprus says the country's president is facing surgery to repair a heart valve.
Government spokesman Nicos Christodoulides said Wednesday that President Nicos Anastasiades will undergo mitral valve surgery "very soon."
Christodoulides said doctors spotted the problem while Anastasiades was undergoing a routine health check.
The 68-year-old president was admitted to a hospital in Brussels last month after suffering a nosebleed caused by high blood pressure, causing him to miss attending a European Union summit. The bleeding was stopped by cauterization.
