LONDON (AP) — An alleged anti-Semitic incident involving a teacher and a student is being investigated at one of Britain's most prestigious all-girl schools.

The North London Collegiate School says it has sought legal advice and taken "appropriate action" after receiving reports of an "offensive statement" made by a staff member.

The school's administrators and the public relations firm handling the incident on their behalf have not denied reports in the Mail on Sunday newspaper that a teacher told a Jewish student she would be sent to "one of your gas chambers" if she did not behave.

The paper said the student was told off after she cut to the front of a cafeteria line.

Mark Gardner of the Jewish community group Community Security Trust said it was a "very upsetting" incident.
