SANAA, Yemen (AP) — Yemen's president has named new officials to critical posts amid repeated criticism of the government's performance.

President Abed Rabbo Mansour Hadi announced the changes Friday in a state television broadcast.

Hadi appointed Maj. Gen. Abdou Hussein el-Terb as the new interior minister, responsible for the police. He also assigned Maj. Gen. Galal el-Rowaishan with heading the intelligence services and Khaled Mahfouz Bahah as petroleum minister.

Three years after the country's uprising that toppled President Ali Abdullah Saleh, the weak central government is still battling al-Qaida fighters who have carried a series of attacks.

Al-Qaida in the Arabian Peninsula, based in Yemen, is considered by the U.S. to be the terror group's most dangerous offshoot. The group controls large territories in Yemen after the 2011 uprising.
