SANAA, Yemen (AP) — Security officials say three suspected al-Qaida militants have killed a top intelligence official and his son in Yemen.
The officials said Col. Ali el-Hadi was shot to death in his car Wednesday in the southern Yemeni city of Aden. The officials said el-Hadi's son, who was shot with him in the car, died of his wounds at a hospital.
The officials, who spoke anonymously in line with regulations, said el-Hadi was in charge of intelligence gathering in Aden.
It is the latest killing of a Yemeni security official in the country on the southern tip of the Arabian Peninsula. The Yemeni military, backed by U.S. support and drone strikes, has tried to crush the operations of al-Qaida in the Arabian Peninsula there.
