LONDON (AP) — Rupert Murdoch's News International says the editor of the Times of London has resigned.

James Harding led the British newspaper for five years.

News International said Wednesday the 43-year-old Harding informed the directors of The Times on Monday and plans to leave the paper at the end of the month. A statement didn't give a reason for the decision.

Murdoch praised Harding for leading the newspaper through "difficult times," saying in the statement he had great respect for the editor and hopes they will work together again.

Harding began his journalistic career at the Financial Times, opening its Shanghai bureau and serving as Washington bureau chief before joining The Times as business editor.
