Hospital: 17 wounded at Guinea opposition rally

A hospital official says at least 17 people were wounded after authorities cracked down on an opposition demonstration in Guinea.

Ibrahima Bah said Friday the victims brought to the hospital had been beaten at a rally Thursday where thousands had gathered.

Guinea's opposition has been threatening to hold marches until the government organizes legislative elections.

When Guinea's longtime dictator died in 2008, soldiers seized power in a coup. Power was later handed over to a transitional government and a presidential election was held in 2010.

The legislative elections were supposed to have taken place six months later.

Thursday's demonstration was the largest since President Alpha Conde came to power.
