A judge in Ecuador says a ruling is expected Monday in a 2011 double murder in the United States that is being tried in an unusual venue.
A three-judge Ecuadorean court is trying Luis Guaman in his homeland on charges he murdered fellow Ecuadorean Maria Avelina Palaguachi and her toddler son in Brockton, Massachusetts.
The two were bludgeoned to death and their bodies dumped in a trash bin.
Presiding Judge Azucena Andrade says a hearing set for Wednesday was postponed after two relatives of the victims failed to appear for live video testimony from the United States.
Ecuador's constitution prohibits the extradition of its citizens, so Guaman is being tried at home. If convicted, he faces 25 years in prison. In Massachusetts he could have faced life.
