AMSTERDAM (Reuters) - With the Netherlands heading for an early election, Prime Minister Mark Rutte's Liberal Party has strengthened its lead, an opinion poll published on Sunday showed, followed closely by two leftist parties.

Rutte, whose centre-right coalition government has only been in power since October 2010, on Saturday said that crucial talks on budget cuts had collapsed and that new elections were therefore inevitable.
