Police say two security agents were killed in northeast Nigeria during an attack by a radical Islamist sect on a border town.
Borno state police spokesman Samuel Tizhe said Wednesday the attack happened in Banki, a city on Nigeria's border with Cameroon. Tizhe said the suspected Boko Haram gunmen attacked a police station using assault rifles and explosives.
Tizhe said a police officer and an immigration official died in the attack. The spokesman said authorities killed five of the suspected gunmen.
Boko Haram is waging an increasingly bloody fight against Nigeria's weak central government in its effort to enact strict Shariah law across the multiethnic nation of more than 160 million people and free its imprisoned members.
