In several stories in January and one on Feb. 24 about violence that struck the north Nigeria city of Kano, The Associated Press reported erroneously that the city's population was about 9 million people. Nigeria's 2006 federal census listed Kano state, of which Kano is the capital, as having a population of 9.4 million people. The city of Kano is home to an estimated 4 million people.
