Russia wants suspect in alleged anti-Putin plot

Russian prosecutors have asked Ukraine to extradite a man accused of involvement in a foiled plot to kill Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin.

The Prosecutor General's office said Thursday it has asked Ukraine to hand over Adam Osmayev, who was arrested in Ukraine this month.

Ukrainian prosecutors say they are studying the request.

Russia's state TV reported Monday that Osmayev and other plotters linked to a Chechen rebel warlord were planning to assassinate Putin with powerful explosives in Russia after its presidential election this Sunday.

Some of Putin's election rivals have dismissed the allegation as a campaign trick intended to boost support for Putin's bid to regain the presidency.

Putin said he was informed about the alleged plot but wasn't intimidated, adding: "Let them fear us."
