The International Press Institute has named Reuters columnist David Rohde this year's World Press Freedom Hero.
It cites the two-time Pulitzer Prize winner's work in Bosnia and Afghanistan in choosing him for the award Tuesday.
Rohde received his first Pulitzer in 1996 for reports in the Christian Science Monitor exposing the massacre of thousands of Bosnian Muslims in Srebrenica.
Rohde also shared a Pulitzer Prize with others at The New York Times in 2009. They were honored for the paper's "masterful, groundbreaking coverage of America's deepening military and political challenges in Afghanistan and Pakistan."
