The 15-year-old U.S. citizen who was mistakenly deported to Colombia after claiming to be an illegal immigrant is returning to the United States, Foreign Minister Maria Angela Holguin said Friday.
"The girl, fully identified, left the country this morning," Holguin told reporters. She said Jakadrien Lorece Turner should be back in the United States during the course of the day.
Holguin said her ministry is investigating the circumstances of Turner's entry into Colombia.
The girl is five months pregnant, and local media have reported that she had been staying at a home for expectant mothers in Bogota since Dec. 1.
"The important thing for Colombia is that the girl is where she should be: with her family," said Holguin, who refused to take questions from reporters.
Ilva Miryam Hoyos, Colombia's attorney general for children, said Turner told authorities that she became pregnant while in Colombia.
