A Czech couple have been convicted of torture and sentenced for isolating their two toddler sons at home, where experts said they were underfed and underclothed.
Police said in April that the parents had never informed authorities about the birth of the boys, who at the time were age 1 and 2. The children were said to have been outside the couple's downtown flat in Prague just once.
The couple acknowledged they lived an alternative lifestyle but denied wrongdoing.
Prague municipal court judge Kamil Kydalka said the children's health "seriously suffered" and sentenced the father to eight years in prison Thursday. The mother received a suspended sentence and has to undergo psychiatric treatment.
The boys are now staying with other relatives.
