Colombian police seek protest organizers

Authorities say they're trying to determine who is ordering residents of towns in northeastern Colombia to halt their activities and stay off roads to protest the killing of a major crime boss.

National Police Deputy Director Jose Leon told reporters Thursday that officers are working to guarantee that area residents can freely go about their business.

He says military intelligence is trying to locate the people responsible for pamphlets calling on the region's residents to protest the killing of crime boss Juan de Dios Usaga.

Police killed Usaga during a gunfight in Choco state Sunday.

Police have said Usaga led a major crime ring involved in drug trafficking and was once a right-wing paramilitary fighter.
