US extradites war crimes suspect to Bosnia

Officials in Bosnia say the United States have extradited a native Bosnian suspected of participation in the wartime killing of Bosnian Croat civilians.

The prosecutor's office said Tuesday that Edin Dzeko has arrived in Bosnia and was taken into custody at the Sarajevo airport.

The 39-year-old Dzeko emigrated to the United States in 2001 and became a U.S. citizen.

Following a request from Bosnian authorities, U.S. authorities tracked him down in Washington state where he was arrested in April.

Dzeko told a judge at the November extradition hearing in Seattle he wants to be tried in Bosnia and clear his name.

According to the charges, Dzeko was a member of a Bosnian Army unit that attacked the southern Bosnian Croat village of Trusina in 1993, killed 18 civilians and wounded several others, including children.
