Jail terms ordered in Colombian kickback scandal

A Colombian judge has sentenced three construction moguls to more than seven years in prison each for embezzlement in a kickback scandal that also involved the ex-mayor of the capital.

Judge Jesus Ignacio Martinez convicted and sentenced brothers Manuel and Miguel Nule and their cousin Guido Nule on Thursday. He sentenced a fourth man to more than six years.

In addition, each of the four was fined $5 million.

The judge noted the traffic chaos caused by the Nules' principal road construction project in Bogota. The project links El Dorado airport with the city center.

Former Mayor Samuel Moreno and his brother, Ivan, are on trial for allegedly soliciting and receiving payoffs from the Nules for contracts. Samuel Moreno denies the charges.
